MATCH-MAKING IN SHANGHAI, 12-15/12/2006
The COSMEC match-making, which took place in Shanghai, at the Rendevous Merry Hotel, from Dec. 12th to Dec. 15th 2006, has proved to be a successful and fruitful event both for EU companies and for the Chinese ones.
85 Chinese and 38 European enterprises – which had already registered in the COSMEC project in the previous months – participated in the match-making event which generated about 1000 business meetings. The total number of participating companies was 123 (out of the 130 expected) being the number of EU companies lower than expected and the number of Chinese larger than expected.
The Opening Ceremony took place on Dec. 12th, after the registration of EU and Chinese enterprises, with a welcome speech by Mr Alberto Drudi (President of the Chamber of Commerce of Pesaro and Urbino), followed by a speech of Mr Jin GuoZhi (Deputy General Secretary of the Shanghai Federation of Industrial Economics - Chinese partner of the COSMEC project) and by a speech by Mr Serafino Piacere (Commercial Attaché of the Italian Consulate in Shanghai).
On Dec. 12th, in the afternoon, a Technical Seminar was organized for all the participating companies with the intervention of the following speakers: Mr Maurizio Forte, General Manager of ICE Shanghai, Ms Luo HongBo, Deputy Director of the European Institute – Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Mr Zhangshen, Secretary of the Shanghai Silicate Association, Mr Wang Shaofang, Secretary of the Shanghai Timber Trade Association (expert on the Wood-working Machinery Industry and Mr Wang Shengchun, Secretary of the Shanghai Construction Machinery Industry.
On Dec. 13th (the whole day) and on Dec. 14th (in the morning) the EU companies, which had been assigned a desk in the Sydney Room (Rendezvous Merry Hotel), met the Chinese enterprises on the base of individual meeting schedules prepared in accordance to the requests of both EU and Chinese companies. Each EU company had a personal interpeter provided by the organization.
On Dec. 14th (in the afternoon), the European companies had the opportunity to visit the Shanghai Fengpu Industrial Park and on Dec. 15th EU enterprises went to visit the Tongxiang Economic Development Zone. The lunch on Dec. 15th took place at the presence of Mr Zhu Baisheng, Director of the Tongxiang Economic Development Zone, whereas his assistant, Ms Josy, explained later on the opportunities and advantages for EU small and medium companies offered by the Tongxiang industrial area which hosts about 130 companies on an area of 50 square kilometres. These companies mostly deal with the mechanical, electronic and fashion/textile sectors. After the presentation of the Tongxiang Economic Development Zone, the EU companies visited the Tongxiang Jushen Group, a highly technological company which produces glass fibers and a very good example of a successful foreign investment. Afterwards, the EU enterprises visited a smaller enterprise, Pufa Machinery Co. Ltd, specialized in designing and manufacturing Surface Grinders, Milling Machines and Boring Machines.
